Week 5 Recaps
Alas, but another rain-filled weekend trumped one set of games on our usual Sunday gameplay. However, four teams soldiered on. Here are their stories.
(The Wiffle House and Pirosotopes matchup is the one that wasn't played. They're either smart, or terrified of the possibility of getting their socks dirty.)
TPC vs. Swamp Donkeys
Game 1
Kevin Smith made his second start of the season and hurled a gem for the always tough Tucker Power Company. Donkey bats were quiet as Kevin tossed a one hitter with hard backdoor riser, and an overhand slider, that the Stinkies couldn’t figure out. Grant Yarbrough pitched well for the Donks, holding the TPC to 1 through 2, but a 2 run bomb by K. Smith in the 3rd, and a lead-off round tripper by Nathan Foster in the 4th chased him out of the game. Chad came on in relief but he gave up a few runs on 5 hits and a 3 run job from Chris Smith. TPC take game 1, 11-0.
Game 2
Josh Shul faced off with TPC pitcher Nathan and the rain couldn’t wash out the fireworks that ensued. Nate, making his first start of the season, held the Donkeys in check for 3 innings, but in the 4th Donkeys show some life, Chuck Patel then Blaine Milam then Josh Shul went back to back to back, Chuck and Blaine on consecutive pitches. However, the short lived optimism of the Donks was dashed by the explosive bats of the TPC. Home run after home run peppered the cheap seats and the Smith brothers plus one of the Fosters took batting practice off the multitude of hanging change ups offered by not 1 but 3 Donkey pitchers. I think we quit keeping score but Kevin had 3, Chris hit 4, and Nathan hit one of his own. Worst day in Donkey history? Perhaps, but the Donks will learn from the beat down and come back stronger. TPC take game 2, 15-4.
NBC vs. Rough Riders
NBC sweeps the Rough Riders. The Riders' offense was stymied, as Ken pitched a 1 hitter prior to Seth throwing a perfect game. Stephen Braue hit a walkoff homer in the seventh inning of game 2 off Brickhouse, giving the NBC the win, 1-0. The NBC took the second game by a score of 3-0.
