Memorial Day Weekend Make-up Extravaganza!

As has often been the case in the odd history of Wiffle Atlanta, a few teams had some games to make up- and when better to do that than Memorial Day weekend? The sun was oppressive, the air was wet, and the mosquitoes were biting their way in to the blood stream, so there probably could have been plenty of better weekends to play these games. Anyway.

Sunday, May 27
TPC played the Isotopes last night making up games from earlier in the season. In game 1, the Isotopes came out hot by scoring 3 runs in the first with a homer off Nathan (that was shot down by the North Koreans a few hours ago). After the rocky start, Big Nate settled in, having a solid outing after that. The TPC won the game "something" to 3. Game 2 saw Daniel pitching his second consecutive no-no, striking out 9 of the 12 batters he faced. The TPC won game two 13-0 and swept the series.

Notes:
  • Kevin extended his league leading homer total to 12.
  • Daniel has not alowed a hit in 13 consecutive innings.
  • Nathan keeps the best book in all of WATL

Pirates 9, Wifflehouse 5
Hayden Randall made his first start for the House, and while he was able to throw solid strikes, he left a few pitches up, and the Pirates were able to hammer them. Stephen hit a shot to dead center, Marc launched one over the bulldozer, and Jordan even poked one out with the banana bat. Jordan had a rough start, giving up a line-drive single and a home run in the first 2 pitches of the game, but then settled down, only allowing 3 runs after that.

Wifflehouse 6, Pirates 2
This game was the bizarro-world version of some of the Brian-Grant duels of years past. Both pitchers have completely changed styles, leading to better control but fewer strikeouts. Both pitchers were able to generate lots of weak contact, as the Pirates hit 8 balls fielded by Brian inside the infield. Jeremy John hit the only home run of the game to lead Wiffle House, as they were able to play small-ball and pick up the split.

So! With five weeks of the season come and gone, we are now at the official halfway point of the season. As things get closer to the end, we will see exactly who can separate themselves from the pack, if anyone at all. In order to elaborate on this, look forward to an upcoming Midseason Review to appear on here sometime soon.
