Recently the Wiffle Atlanta brass got together to discuss some changes that have been thrown back and forth for a while. Here is what we came up with.
- Schedule! The season will start April 27. It will be 10 weeks long with an extra week for makeups.
- Yellow bats: After much discussion, it was decided to go back to yellow bats. The goal is to create more balls in play and more fun!
- Smaller strike zone, which was probably the least controversial decision. The zone will now measure 20" x 30" instead of 24" x 30". This is fairly standard throughout the wiffle world.
- Speed limit: The new speed limit will be 65 MPH. For pitches measured between 66-70 MPH, the offense will have the opportunity to take the result of the play, or alternately a null pitch. Every pitch 71+ MPH will be a balk. No warnings.
Other things were talked about, such as the budget, team sizes, all that, but that's all boring, so you don't want to hear about that. Next up: the schedule for the season and the team application form! Pay attention, because we will be seeing you soon!
